When you start your course with TAFE Illawarra you will need to use a range of websites, systems and resources. Most of these can be accessed from your TAFE Student Portal.
To get started, you will need a TAFE Username and Password.
If you don’t have a username and password, you will need to contact the Customer Service Centre or Library at your local campus for assistance.
Things to do
In your TAFE Student Portal you will find:
The Learner Portal – where you can access your enrolment information, update your personal information, view your results, request transcripts and pay your fees.
Your TAFE email account – you will be allocated an email account as part of your enrolment at TAFE. The email address will be your TAFE username followed by @tafensw.net.au. For example: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Moodle LMS – where you will access your learning and assessment materials.
The Library – where you have access to electronic resources, online subject guides and the library catalogue.
lynda.com – where you can access your free lynda.com account. You can watch any of the 1,000’s of lynda.com courses to supplement your learning or to satisfy a personal interest.
Your TAFE password gives you access to all of TAFE’s electronic systems and resources anywhere, anytime. So it is important that you keep your password secure.
Your TAFE user name and password provides access to:
- the II-TAFE WiFi network for personal laptops and other devices on campus
- your TAFE Student Portal
- your TAFE email account
- Library eResources – electronic books, videos, journals and lots more
- lynda.com – online video tutorials.
Log in to your TAFE Student Portal to change your password. Once you have logged in to the TAFE Student Portal, and after accepting the terms and conditions, you will be prompted to set up your secret questions and answers – this will only happen once. If you set up these questions and answers it will be easy for you to reset your own password in future, for example if you forget your password. Make sure you keep the questions simple and the answers easy to remember!
Once that is done, you will be prompted to change your password. Type in your current password (that was allocated by TAFE), then type in your new password. Confirm your new password, click enter and your password has changed.

It’s a good idea to forward your TAFE Illawarra email account to your personal email account, so you don’t miss any important messages relating to your course.
Watch this video to learn how to forward your emails and then have a look at the Student and Learner Portal subject guide (below) to find out more about using your portals.
